Supposition and (Statistical) Models

چکیده
Abstract In a recent paper, Sprenger advances what he calls “suppositional” answer to the question of why Bayesian agent’s degrees belief should align with probabilities found in statistical models. I show that Sprenger’s account trades on an ambiguity between hypothetical and subjunctive suppositions cannot succeed once we distinguish two.

Moving Objects Tracking Using Statistical Models
Object detection plays an important role in successfulness of a wide range of applications that involve images as input data. In this paper we have presented a new approach for background modeling by nonconsecutive frames differencing. Direction and velocity of moving objects have been extracted in order to get an appropriate sequence of frames to perform frame subtraction. Stationary parts of ...

1 and suggestions of my colleague John Corcoran. The present paper is much superior to earlier versions as a result of his input. 1 1. LANGUAGE AND SPEECH ACTS In this paper I develop a system of what I understand to be illocutionary logic. In order to motivate this system and make it intelligible to the reader, I briefly sketch a philosophical basis for the system. This sketchy foundation will...

متن کاملEDITORIALS A Predisposition Supposition for Glioma
Who is at risk for developing a brain tumor? Exposure to some agents, such as vinyl chloride or radiation, may increase the risk. A family history of glioma can also be a risk factor, accounting for approximately 2% of glioma patients (1). However, the known causes of glioma represent only a small percentage of patients, with most cases arising “spontaneously.” Could a more subtle genetic predi...
